Candidate/Senior Analyst Mentor Program 2022

The SPPP Candidate Outreach Committee (COC) is revitalizing its role in the Division to better support psychoanalytic candidates and encourage interest in psychoanalytic training. We aim to grow and preserve the longevity of psychoanalysis.  As part of this effort, we intend to start a Candidate Mentorship Program, whereby analytic candidates in SPPP can apply to receive mentorship from a senior psychoanalyst.

Senior mentors will agree to meet in person or via virtual platforms or over the phone with your matched candidate fellow for a minimum of nine sessions over the course of one academic calendar year (Spring Conference to Spring Conference). Additional meetings will be left up to the negotiation of the candidate-mentor pair.  Matches between mentors and candidates would be made on the basis of shared interests, such as work with children, cross cultural issues, trauma, and so on.  Mentor and candidate would engage in learning goals in accordance with the candidates’ needs, which may range from case consultation and theoretical and technical discussions to professional development concerns, such as starting an analytic private practice, clinical writing, or navigating complex institute training. 

While our mentorship program is similar to the one offered by the Scholars Program, our fellowship does not require the candidates to be Early Career Professionals (ECP). As many analytic candidates are beyond the ECP (10 yr past since graduation) requirement, our fellowship is aiming to fill the needs of a long-overlooked group of individuals.
