Education and Training Committee
This committee serves the education and training initiatives and interests of Div. 39. The committee works with the Div. 39 board, associated division committees, and division sections to collaboratively assist the division in efforts to enhance the representation of psychoanalytic perspectives in undergraduate- and graduate-level psychology education; doctoral and master's level practica/externship, pre-doctoral internship, and postdoctoral training; and the assessment and treatment of underserved or marginalized patients/populations. The committee also promotes psychoanalytically-oriented research and scholarship and encourages psychologists to pursue postdoctoral training in psychoanalysis.
Chair: Bhupin Butaney, PhD, is a professor of psychology at the Midwestern University (Glendale, AZ campus) where he is associate program director of its APA-accredited Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Butaney currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology and Psychoanalysis (Division 39/APA) and for Psychologists in Independent Practice (Division 42/APA). He is a Representative to the Psychoanalytic Specialty Council (PSC) and a delegate member of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology (NCSPP). He has published and presented on a variety of topics related to psychoanalysis, cultural diversity, mindfulness, and supervision. His primary research interests include psychotherapy process and outcomes, clinical mindfulness, and the role of envy in clinical practice. Dr. Butaney maintains a private practice in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy in Scottsdale, AZ.
Member: Theodore Ellenhorn, PhD, ABPP, is Professor and Core Faculty, Antioch University New England. Board Certified in both the specialty of Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychology and subspecialty in Psychoanalysis. Ted serves as President, American Board and Academy of Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology; Chair, Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychology and Psychoanalysis Specialty Council, Council of Specialties in Professional Psychology; member of the Education and Training Committee of Division 39. He is in private practice in Amherst, MA.
Member: Stephanie Kors, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Loyola University Maryland and a Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Health Alliance. She serves as an early career liaison to the Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychology and Psychoanalysis Specialty Council, as a board member of Academics for the Advancement of Psychodynamic Psychology, and as treasurer of Section II of Division 39 of the American Psychological Association. She is also in private practice in Baltimore, Maryland.
Member: Richard Enander, Ph.D., serves as Director of Training for Dallas Therapy Alliance and is involved in the recruitment and training of its postdoctoral fellows. He is President of the Dallas Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology, is a member of the Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology (Division 39 of the APA), the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, the Neuropsychoanalysis Association, and the National Latinx Psychological Association.
